One Bowl Chocolate Cake

This is a recipe that will give you and your family and friends sweet and delicious memories. The type of recipe that inspires people to ask longingly “when will you be making it again.” Music to my ears.

Equipment: 9x13 baking pan /sprayed with cooking oil


  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of boiling or very hot water
  • ½ cup butter
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract


  1. Mix all dry ingredients in a large bowl with a whisk, making sure well blended.
  2. Add all wet ingredients except water. Mix at medium speed for 2 minutes.
  3. Stir in boiling water with spoon.
  4. Bake for 30 – 35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Homemade Icing: Melt butter in large measuring cup and add cocoa and stir
  6. Add half of icing sugar and half of milk measurement and stir. Add remaining icing sugar and milk
  7. Add vanilla and stir. Frost cake and enjoy
